Fabrics

Opal Fabrics
Our fabrics are imported directly from a mill in northern Italy. They are primarily 100% Super 120s Merino wools and silk/wool blends. They range from $65/yd to $85/yd. They are ideal for our styles and can be purchased by the yard for personal use.

Our mill has long standing relationships with it's fiber suppliers. They are regularly inspected to ensure humane treatment of animals.

Other Fabrics
We also offer select fabrics from Loro Piana, Josephine's Dry Goods, Valentino, Ungaro and Carnet.

Clients are welcome to bring in their own fabrics for consideration.

Opal is a custom clothing shop for women that is part style and part process.  Our style is clean and feminine.  Our process helps clients select the cuts, fabrics and finishes ideal for their body and personality.  We build each piece individually, intent on creating garments of high quality and longevity.

Meg Okies Studio Director
I believe clothing made to one's desires becomes something special... less disposble. And that every woman should have a wardrobe she loves, so that dressing is effortless and she can move on to other goals in her life.  Twelve years ago, I set out to build a business that would offer this to women.

I studied at Parsons School of Design. While there, I worked with Badgely-Mishka and toured Europe--studying designers, mills and manufacturers.

Upon returning to Portland, I honed my skills in a custom dressmaking business. In late 2005, I felt my skills and the available technology were ready to create Opal.

Style
Finished designs are displayed, showing some of the styles, fabrics and finishes we offer.

Fitting samples of each style, in a range of 10 sizes, are available to try on. You can see for yourself which styles work best on you.

Measurements
Measurements are taken privately, in less than a minute, with a white light
body scanner.

Design
Next, you select fabric and design details such as waist finish, hem length, pockets and lining. We have large samples of our fabrics, so you can get a true sense of how your finished garment will look.

Fittings
Skirts require a single fitting. Pants require two fittings.

Deposit and Pick-up
We request a 30% deposit. Due to the custom nature of our work, deposits are non-refundable.  Finished garments are ready in 2 to 3 weeks.
